Platinum Wedding Rings

Platinum wedding rings are an alternative to white gold wedding rings.

We use 950 platinum alloy which means 950 parts per thousand is platinum and the remaining 50 parts per thousand is made up from other precious metals in the platinum family, ie 95% pure. This is the industry standard.

Generally a platinum 950 wedding ring will cost twice the 18k white gold price.

18k white gold ring price $200 ==> platinum ring price about $400
18k white gold ring price $350 ==> platinum ring price about $700
18k white gold ring price $500 ==> platinum ring price about $1,000

Why do Platinum Wedding Rings cost so much more than 18k White Gold Wedding Rings?

The reasons that platinum rings cost so much more than 18k gold wedding rings are:

1. Platinum costs more than gold as a raw material.

2. Platinum 950 alloy is denser than 18k gold alloys by about 25%. ie a wedding ring that weighs 6 grams in 18k gold will weigh about 7.5 grams in platinum.

3. The costs to refine the waste from ring manufacture are greater for platinum than they are for gold.            

In general women prefer their platinum wedding rings from 2mm wide to 4mm wide and men prefer their platinum wedding rings from 5mm wide to 8mm wide.
